Contributor's comments: In the southeast of South Australia, which is limestone country with many underground caverns, there exist "run-away" holes - depressions in the ground that appear to be solid yet in heavy downpours run-off water floods into the holes and drains rapidly away through the porous bottom of the hole. Very often a tree grows next to the bottom of these holes.
