Contributor's comments: I grew up with the term "clubbies", only it didn't refer to swimming togs. It was a term used by surf-board riders for surf-life saving club members.
Contributor's comments: I agree with the other contributor about clubbies meaning members of life saving clubs. I've heard the expression used in Melbourne. There is a documentary series called "The story or English" I think (it was on SBS years ago) which features an Australian woman (from Sydney I think) who talks about 'clubbies' and other local expressions.
