Contributor's comments: I never heard of a poddy cow. A poddy calf is a hand-fed calf (Central West NSW, 50s/60s)

Contributor's comments: "Poddy" used for calf or lamb referred to any bottle-fed young animal - or just called "poddies". Central West NSW - 1950's - current.

Contributor's comments: Grew up on the north coast around dairy and beef farms and never heard anyone refer to poddy cows - it was always poddy calf.

Contributor's comments: We only called calves that you handfed poddies. Other farming districts in Victoria seem to call them 'bobby calves'.

Contributor's comments: Growing up on a farm in the Riverina early 1960s we had poddy calves that we were hand rearing. I think they were orphaned or rejected calves.
