Contributor's comments: Not just the SEC, all school boys in the 60's at CBC schools at least had kit bags.
Contributor's comments: Kit bag (for Gladstone Bag) also very commonly used in SA when I was at school in the 50s. They were often used by boys as school bags, & by men going to work & elsewhere. Not used by women or girls.
