Contributor's comments: Also quite common in '50's NSW (Central Coast). Sometimes called a "gonk" (cf. ging).

Contributor's comments: As a boy in the Lake Macquarie area, a "gonk" was more commonly called a "shangai". I have a feeling that it depended on your age group. Older primary school boys called them "gonks".

Contributor's comments: In the Army, 'gonk' means to take a nap.

Contributor's comments: Gonk in the services means to have a short sleep/siesta/nap etc.

Contributor's comments: When I was a kid a Gonk was a cheap small furry toy usually won from a carnival.
