flash for cash

Police speed camera: Have you been out home and seen the flash for cash - Have you come into town recently and seen the speed camera?

Contributor's comments: A police radar camera: "Watch your speed, there's a flash for cash ahead on your left."

Contributor's comments: Speed camera or laser gun. Heard on UHF channel 40, the truckers' channel, just outside Mackay, "Look out for a flash for cash on the right just shory of the Eungula turn-off."

Contributor's comments: Used all along North Queensland. It is used to signify police radar traps/guns. The phrase is used because it is a disguise for the real meaning and usually said over two-way with semi's & other vehicles. One good example is between a semi and say a ute with a 2-way, Ute: "Red Coke Semi, how's the road behind you?" Semi: "It's clear except for a Flash for Cash just outside of Shell Service Station".
