When I was in Primary school (during the 1970s and also in the Perth metropolitan area), [handball] was called 'square ball'. The ball (often a basketball) was round (!) and the court was a square divided into four zones (identical to that described for 'four square'). I can remember there being 'square ball' competitions during a few of the friendly and informal interschool sports days. I wonder if anyone else used the term 'square ball'? Compare handball, king ping, two-square, KP. Also, 4-square.
