phat

Something that is 'phat' is bigger than great, wonderful, fantastic or really cool: Look at that car over there, isn't it phat!

Contributor's comments: [Brisbane informant] Phat also stands for "pretty, hot and tender" i.e. That girl is phat.

Contributor's comments: I've heard "fat" meaning good in Aus since the 70's; I assumed it was originally mostly a reference to "fat wheels" on hotted-up cars, and later, fat being the thing that yummy cakes make you. I'd guess that the "ph" spelling is a recent twist from UK or USA via hip-hop ("phat bass" &c). dunno.

Contributor's comments: awesome, tough, very impressive. Often used when referring to various enviable & extensive car modifications or to describe an exciting night out: "Last night was phatt!!"

Contributor's comments: My first contact with this term occurred when working in USA East Coast. Most commonly used to flatteringly describe the female form. It was explained to me that the term meant "Plenty of Hip And Thigh", a sought after shape, rather than 'fat'.
