veggie maths

the easiest maths stream at highschool. Refers to 'General Maths' for the old NSW HSC: She's doing veggie maths.

Contributor's comments: My High School was in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, and we used two terms to distinguish between the lower HSC maths (Maths in Practice, from memory) and the absolute lowest (Maths in Society, which I guess is "veggie maths"). Maths in Practice was called "Maths in Space" whereas the lowest was "Maths in the Sandpit".

Contributor's comments: This term was used to describe the 'everday maths class' that students who were not intending to go on to years 11 and 12 or to do any tertiary study. Used in a derogatory manner!

Contributor's comments: Veggie maths in the old HSC was 'Maths in Society'; it's only in the new HSC that General is the lowest level.

Contributor's comments: I grew up on the south coast and can vouch for the wide use of this term!

Contributor's comments: Heard this at school in Brisbane. Any subject that was the easier option could be referred to as a veggie subject.
