brickfielder

noun a southerly buster which stirs up the dust. [from Brickfield Hill, former site of a brick-pit located to the south of the city centre; southerly winds would cloak the city with dust from this site]

Contributor's comments: At High School in rural NSW in geography I was taught that the "brickfielder" was a hot northwesterly wind and that the expression originated in Melbourne.
