It is the pronunciation of the word. In Victoria, it is "sickayda" but in NSW it is "sickarda". Not sure about elsewhere. No difference in the use of the word - pronunication only.

Contributor's comments: In West Ryde, where I grew up in Sydney, a locust was a large brown insect like a oversized grasshopper, not a cicada.
