extremely ill. [from Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney]
Contributor's comments: Rookwood is a cemetery in Sydney so if you are as "crook as Rookwood" you aren't feeling too good. Used by my older pre-war relatives when they have a hangover: "I'm as crook as rookwood mate!"

Contributor's comments: Grandfather (born 1915) & dad (born 1934) both feel as crook as Rookwood when they have the flu (Central Western NSW).

Contributor's comments: I moved from Sydney to Brisbane & found to my surprise that crook as Rookwood had become so much a part of my language but obviously was incomprehensible to Bris citizens. I miss not being able to use it !

Contributor's comments: Having a large number of relatives buried there, if a person was "as crook as rookwood" they had died.
