reggies

underpants - as I understand its provenance, 'underpants' was shortened to 'undies'which through rhyming slang became 'Reg Grundys' abbreviated to 'reggies'. It was widely used by kids when I was growing up in Lindfield in Sydney and at my school in Kirribilli in the 1970s and 80s. Older kids would use "Reg Grundys" but we all just said reggies. I have friends who still use it with their kids, though only occasionally hear it in conversations between adults (guess adults don't have so many conversations about their underpants!) Seems to have been used on the North Shore and in the Northern Suburbs (friends who grew up in Epping, Eastwood, Beecroft etc. know it and use it still) but not many know it beyond those areas as far as I am aware: When they dacked him in the pool he lost his reggies.
