Contributor's comments: Used a lot in Victoria, I've also heard it in NSW and Qld. I thought it was common all round Australia.
Contributor's comments: Used by everyone! Sandgropers comes from the era of the mining boom, gold, where West Australians were groping sand to find precious metals etc.
