seven o'clock wave

Refers to the mythical wave released each day from the dam up the Murrumbigee River from Wagga Wagga. Newcomers would always be told to get a surfboard and be at Wagga beach to catch the seven o'clock wave which had been released earlier from the dam. It was a standing joke in Wagga in the 1970s and 1980s at least, to my knowledge. The time was changed to suit the people being teased about the wave: Get ready with your board to catch the seven o'clock wave at the beach tonight.

Contributor's comments: [Wagga Wagga informant] Its a 5 o'clock wave. Not a seven o'clock.

Contributor's comments: As a former Wagga City Council Beach Inspector from the mid 80's - it was always known as the 5 O'clock wave.
