vince

a word used to indicate that one has just farted. If used before another person says "slugs", the farter avoids repercussions (such as getting the borries beaten out of him): "Vince!" "You bastard!" Compare slugs, badger.

Contributor's comments: Vince was used extensively in Wagga during the early 70's and I understand in the Horsham area before that. I have an interest in finding out about its origin.

Contributor's comments: We used the word Vince as a word for fart when growing up in bayside Melbourne in the late 70's. I always thought my elder brother had made it up to avoid getting in trouble for using the word fart. I thought it referred to the smelly bloke who worked at the local servo, whose name was Vince!

Contributor's comments: Hadn't heard of this one, but used slugs and vince as a kid at school age.

Contributor's comments: In Ararat [Central Highlands Victoria] in the 70's, it was uttered by a person after he had farted. I don't remember hearing "slugs" said by anybody though.
